Superdawg was opened in
May of 1948, and good business
has helped transform the once
little hot dog stand into
a very popular drivethru
that brings many
customers every day.
It has been
noted in '1,000 Places
To See Before You Die,
A Traveler's Life List'
by Patricia Shultz, that
this is a must see attraction,
and Superdawg
lives up to that hype.
Their most famous
item is the Superdawg,
which is basically a hot
dog, but a little bigger.
The service there was
very fast, especially for
the amount of people
standing in line at the
time. There are a few
tables and stools to the
right of the cashier. It
can sit a few people,
but there are also a lot
of picnic tables outside
for patrons to sit back
and enjoy a meal on a
beautiful day. The inside and theme of Superdawg has
a retro tone to it, and with the
winking hot dog standing above
the whole eatery, it gives off a fun
and friendly environment. The
food is presented in a pencil box
shaped apparatus, containing the
hot dog and fries, which were hidden
underneath. The hot dog was
well loaded with tomatoes, relish,
onions; it was your basic Chicago
style hot dog. The relish seemed
to have this dark neon green tone
to it, but it was still very delicious.
The price of the hot dog meal
and large drink was $6.55, which
was a little high for a hot dog and
fries, but that's the average price
one will pay while eating there. If
you're not in the mood for a hot
dog, Superdawg has
many other options
including hamburgers,
chicken sandwiches,
even milk shakes and
ice cream. Super veggies,
onion chips, and
shrimp are amongst
the many other items
on the menu.
Overall, the
meal was very delicious,
if a little expensive. It
was a good experience
to eat there and check
out the people that
looked so happy to be
eating there, especially
some of the older folks
that looked as if they
had been coming here
for many years. This is
a perfect place to bring
family and friends that
are from out of town,
for a tasty meal that
will satisfy their appetites.
