As simple as day and night,
President George W. Bush often
shares his definition of marriage
being between a man and
a woman. The pageantry of balanced
chromosomes and chivalry
is remarkable to witness. A bride
and her gown are memorable. A
groom and his best man happen
to be festive. A certain definition
of the word marriage helps guide
many people down the aisle during
a wedding. According to The
American Heritage College Dictionary,
the word marriage is defined
as "A legal union of a man
and woman as husband and wife."
However, other people have been
sharing their definition of marriage
as well. One such person is
Rick Garcia.

Rick Garcia, a 14 year veteran
of human rights has worked beside
Mayor Richard M. Daley and
Governor Rod Blagojevich along
with countless volunteers trying
to make history. Garcia and his
political followers have been trying
to create equality regarding
the definition of marriage. Garcia
said, "It is simply a matter of equal
treatment under the law. It all
boils down to one set of rules for
everybody." To explain the importance
of legalizing gay marriage,
he profoundly illustrates a scene
from the movie, Philadelphia. In
the scene, a lover is not allowed to
stay and visit his sick partner because
he is not legally married or
family. The scene is sad to watch,
as it is to watch a survivor of domestic
violence become a victim
like Stacy Peterson. Nevertheless,
Garcia has a right to express his
truths as well. Garcia often says,
"It is about practical reasons; fairness
and decency."

If certain people want to regulate
the definition of marriage,
then why don't other people try
modifying definitions of other
words? A bible fanatic's new
definition of the word homophobia
can be fear of homosapiens.
Therefore, the new definition
can no longer be an excuse for
hate crimes against gay people. A
heterosexual that thinks myopically
can try a new definition for
the word bisexual to mean the
sex that takes place on the byway.
Why change any definition of
words, when getting to know another
