Four areas of Wright College underwent renovations this past summer. The parking lots, cafeteria, theater, and the locker rooms experienced subtle changes before beginning the fall semester.

The Wright parking lots, along with those at the other City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) were repaved and repaired. "The parking lots along Montrose and Narragansett Avenues have not been repaired for 15 years and were showing signs of age with pot holes, cracks, and sinking around the sewers," Wright College President Dr. Charles Guengerich said.

Parking lot renovations began on July 7, concentrating on the three lots located to the north of the Wright parking garage, according to Wright College Chief Engineer Pat Mannix. The renovation focused on the two lots on the south portion of Wright's campus. Also, a new fence will be built along the property line separating Wright from the condominiums on the south end of the lot and the access roads along the parking lots will receive re-coating and re-paving. Disabled students will have the benefit of more access points along the sidewalks providing more ways to enter Wright. Mannix said that these renovations will not reach completion this year saying, "Whatever isn't finished in 2008 will be moved to summer 2009." The renovations to the parking lot cost an estimated $180,000.

But, the parking lot renovations have cause problems for Wright students; they encounter traffic jams during weekday mornings and early evenings entering and exiting the parking lot. "At nine o'clock every morning, it's a fight for spots, and even when I come for night classes on Mondays and Wednesdays, it's the same thing," Wright College student Dan O' Donnell said. "It's caused me to change my schedule because I have been late to numerous classes, numerous times."

According to Dr. Guengerich students can park in the gravel lot located west of the parking garage between the 38th Ward Yard and the Latvian Lutheran Church during renovations. "Students will need to be patient this fall, as work will continue as classes go on." He added, "Students who drive need to allow adequate time to allow for finding parking."
