I am a senior student at Wright College and feel that I am a victim of age discrimination. There is a story here, and I would appreciate it so much if you would read my story.
On August 25, 2008, I was required to drop a course at Wright College which I had paid with my credit card, because I am a senior citizen over 65 years of age and was told that senior students can only take six credit hours per semester. I wrote to Wright President Guengerich on August 26, 2008 asking for clarification of the policy for seniors who wanted two free courses according to the policy enumerated in the college bulletin, and a third course at their own expense. I have not had a response. The history is as follows:
Spring Semester 2008:
I registered at Wright for eight credit hours (two courses of four credit hours each). I paid for one course with my credit card and the other was free, under the above provision. There was no problem, and I was urged by my Wright advisors to register in such a manner.
Summer Semester 2008:
I again registered at Wright for eight credit hours (two courses of four credit hours each). I paid for one course with my credit card and the other was free, as per the previous semester. However, a male member of the Business Services Department told me that I cannot register for more than six credit hours per semester because I am a senior student. He said I would have to drop one course because I registered for a total of eight credit hours. I told him I was paying for one of the courses and only requesting four free credit hours. He told me I could not do this, but eventually consulted a supervisor. He returned and registered me without comment.
Fall Semester 2008:
August 19, 2008: I registered for three Wright courses on August 19, 2008, but was told by a very gracious and kind lady at the Business Services Department that if I wished to get the six free credit hours for senior students, I would have to wait until the first day of class to register. No tuition had been paid at that point. I paid for one course by credit card and withdrew two courses with the intent of re-registering on the first day of class, as instructed by the lady.
