Letters to the Editor concerning April Editorial
Issue date: 5/1/09 Section: Editorial & Opinion
Each month I look forward to the new issue of The Wright Times, in hopes of reading about students' opinions on current events and things happening on campus. This month was no different; I even giggled as I glanced at the President's photo on the front page. Yes, I was absolutely thrilled for the new edition, until I happened to read the Editorial.
I was absolutely appalled as I read the comments made about Director Diane Prosser in the article "Family College Director Deserves a Timeout." I'm 19, and I have been taking Continuing Education classes at Wright College since the young age of five. I fondly remember taking classes with Ms. Prosser at the Wright South campus, especially the Space Camp (1998) and Med Camp (1999) she taught. Not only was she a wonderful teacher, but many of the things I learned from her benefited me in both high school and college. If I had the choice, I would take those classes all over again. I know now that it's not exactly easy to teach 20 young students (I wasn't exactly a well-behaved nine-year-old), but Ms. Prosser accepted the challenge and came out victorious. I never had any complaints to make about her, and I don't think Wright could have put a better person in charge of the Family College. I admire her talents and her ability to inspire young children to learn, and I recognize the valuable contributions she has made to both Wright College and my personal growth and education.
When I read some of the allegations against Ms. Prosser in your newspaper, not only did I feel insulted, but I also felt outraged. There is no problem with the lack of advertising for the Family College program. If anything, it's my fellow students who don't bother to pay attention to all of the Continuing Education posters and course schedules that are posted all over campus. Perhaps if they bothered to actually read the Continuing Education schedules, then they would know about all of the wonderful programs that Wright offers. Just as Dr. Guengerich said in the article, "there's not a whole lot we can do thereā¦I don't know what more we can do to register or inform them other than mail the Family College schedule and credit schedule to their homes and community."
