In January, Wright College hosted a celebration of its 75th anniversary, sponsored by Eli's Cheesecake, Student Government Association (SGA), and Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) members. This celebration included a piano player, student vocal performances, a free movie viewing of "The Gay Divorcee," cheesecake and more.
Wright is part of the seven City Colleges of Chicago (CCC). As part of the CCC, students transfer to four-year universities or pursue career programs, such as nursing.
The single-building school first opened its Austin campus in 1934, a 15 minute drive from Wright's current North campus. In 1993, the CCC moved Wright's campus to its current Narragansett location, with five new buildings.
In 1995, Wright added the Humboldt Park Vocational Education Center on 1645 N California Ave as another campus. Here, students can take classes that are part of Wright's catalog, as well as receive job training.
Wright College Professor Jane Wagoner said, "During the Fall 2009 and Spring 2010 school year, Wright College is celebrating its 75th anniversary. The purposes of the newspaper displays are to highlight the changes over the decades. Wright College's old location on Austin Ave (now Chicago Academy) and the Wright community are donating books for its library in honor of the college's 75th anniversary." Furthermore, Wright College Vice President Cynthia Cordes added, "The celebration of Wright being open for 75 years impacts everybody. "
During the celebratory event, a piano player performing background music greeted students. Furthermore, students found a poster with the agenda of events happening in the Atrium. Students picked up copies of the school song "Fight, Wright, Fight", which included some background history on Wright in 1934. The 75th anniversary celebration summed up facts and history about Wright, showed old archives of the formerly known as Wright Times newspaper, and many photos of past events when Wright was on its former campus.
